Jordan’s Air 1 ‘Shattered Backboard’ Celebrates History

Let us set the scene. The date is August 1985, and Michael Jordan is on tour with Nike in Northeast Italy, taking part in an exhibition game as part of the Stefanel Trieste team. It was during this game that NBA history was made when MJ performed a slam dunk so powerful that it shattered the glass backboard.

30 years later, in 2015, Jordan celebrated the anniversary of both the fateful slam and the Air Jordan 1 silhouette by releasing the AJ1 ‘Shattered Backboard’. Inspired by the orange and black hues of the Trieste jersey, the design utilised familiar Jordan colourblocking that went on to become grail.

Returning to our shelves 10 years on, the Air Jordan 1 ‘Shattered Backboard’ stays true to the original blueprint with a like-for-like reconstruction. Premium tumbled leather coats the upper with ‘Sail’ centring itself at the midfoot, while ‘Starfish’ orange bookends the design on the toe and heel, and bold black provides the framework. Inside, special sockliners pay homage to the event that made the history books, and a thematic off-white and orange Air sole unit anchors the design.

Don’t miss out. The draw for the Air Jordan 1 ‘Shattered Backboard’ opens 06.07.2025 and closes 11.07.2025
