Mackage Debuts First-ever Sneaker Along With World Cup Capsule

Mackage is giving a peek into the future of its sneaker offering with the launch of its new World Cup capsule collection with HNS, the Croatian Football Federation.

On Thursday, the Montreal-based company most known for its outerwear revealed that it has launched its first sneaker, signaling the brand’s expansion into a new category as part of its new capsule. Rendered in the club’s colors, the debut style will complete a head-to-toe offering for the Croatian National Team as it gears up for next month’s mega tournament.

As for the rest of the collection, the capsule draws on Croatian heritage with the national colors of red, white and navy across a range of pieces including technical outerwear, knitwear, polos and bottoms. Modular elements like removable bibs and hoods are also included in the line, Mackage noted. Mackage is the Croatian National Team’s official off-field outfitter.

Alongside the collection, the Canadian company unveiled an accompanying film shot inside a traditional Croatian football club featuring iconic players, notably Luka Modrić, Ivan Perišić, Dominik Livaković, Andrej Kramarić, Joško Gvardiol, Mateo Kovačić, Josip Stanišić, Mario Pašalić and more. Against the Šahovnica-inspired checkerboard floors and with the emblematic Dalmatian dog in view, the film begins quietly and introspectively, soon giving way to a lively football match.

Tanya Golesic, chief executive officer of Mackage, said in a statement that as someone with Croatian heritage, this collection “feels deeply personal.”

“There’s something powerful about how Croatia operates – a country small in size, but defined by an incredible level of focus, discipline and technical excellence,” Golesic noted. “It’s a mindset we deeply relate to at Mackage. We’ve built our brand the same way; through precision, craft and an unwavering commitment to doing things at the highest level.”

This isn’t the first time Mackage has worked with members of the Croatian National Team. In July, the company tapped Livaković to be the face of the third iteration of its “Protect Your Craft” campaign.

For this spot, Livaković, goalkeeper for the Croatian National Team and the Turkish Süper Lig Fenerbahçe SK team, was photographed against iconic New York City backdrops such as a subway station, leaning against a taxi and visiting a bodega.

Prior faces in the “Protect Your Craft” campaign were tennis player Donna Vekić and soccer player Joško Gvardiol.
