In 2010, adidas and size? introduced the first-ever Birmingham silhouette to the lauded ‘City Series’, and this time around, we handed the creative reins to our store staff to spark the inspiration in their own way. Coming from the people who know it best, the design paid tribute to Birmingham’s sweeter side with a nod to its history of chocolate making, a cornerstone of the city’s lore. Wrapped in plush purple suede, the 2010 model featured milky white leather 3-Stripes that poured down the sidewalls, melting above the chocolatey brown rubber sole unit. Channelling the city’s rebellious spirit, gold foil ‘Birmingham’ wordmark deviated from the usual block print, swirling into life on the laterals, bringing with it a historical edge.
A pivotal era for many, the late sixties in the West Midlands marked the start of a movement. Heavy underground vibrations rumbled from within factory walls, sparking the beginnings of a musical genre that celebrated the supernatural, called out social chaos and spotlighted the conflict between good and evil. From The Crown to the global stage, the thunderous sound of the working class, truth and rebellion was unmistakable.
Made from sturdy stuff, 2025’s Birmingham will hold its own on the sweat-washed floors of Scruffy Murphy’s or Subside with a premium all-leather construction. Stygian black leather eclipses across the upper before electrifying pink accents slash the sidewalls with serrated leather 3-Stripes. Fused below is the rubber sole unit with its gritty traction, while a rotated 1/2025 on the heel marks the silhouette as the rarity it is, and just like its predecessor, the gold foil ‘Birmingham’ wordmark is etched in its unique swirling font to carry on the legacy.
