Paying tribute to evasive grails of the past – our theme for this year’s adidas Archive series that’s already seen the revival of the Oregon Ultra Tech in faux ostrich leather format – we now switch our focus to the fabled ZX 8000; a lineage that’s been a staple on our shelves since we first opened our doors back in 2000.

Restoring one of the heavily speculated unofficial ‘Aqua’ samples from the coveted OG line-up that debuted back in 1989, the first ½ of our adidas Originals ZX 8000 – size? exclusive pack is – rumour has it – an ode to a prototypal colourway that never made the cut.
For the design itself, it’s business as usual with the typical sheeny mesh foundation, intersecting suede overlays and TPU heel cages. Torsion bar units – one of the German sportswear label’s flagship technologies – sit underfoot, increasing rotary resistance between the heel and forefoot. Lugged rubber outsoles sign the pair off, providing durable grip for lifestyle settings, warehouse raves – you name it.

Hailing from 1998, the adidas Originals ZX 8000 ‘Germany’ silhouette mirrored the Deutschland national team’s classic jersey hues. There’ve been a couple of retro bringbacks of this model since then, the last one releasing quite recently, back in 2022. Honouring its disruptive heritage, we’ve reimagined the archival sample history that never saw the light of day for our rendition, in order to give something nostalgic and collectable back to the adidas ZX series community.
Staying as true as possible to the OG specifications, uppers are constructed from mesh with layered suede tooling and Trefoil-branded tongue tabs. Below, Torsion bars provide all-day-long comfort and dependability, while tonal black rubber outsoles offer up trail-rooted grip.
