Air Jordan 16 Retro OG ‘Ginger’ 2027 Release Date IX7269-700

There are certain sneakers in Michael Jordan’s incomparable legacy of footwear, such as the Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 3 and Air Jordan 4 which are kept in production nearly indefinitely. Then, there are other models, such as the Air Jordan 16, which have a devoted cult following, but are rarely seen in Retro form. 

There are even styles from the Air Jordan 16’s original 2001 run that have never been reissued, but one such pair will finally make its long-awaited return next year. The Air Jordan 16 Retro OG “Ginger” is set to be rereleased during summer 2027 according to information shared by @zsneakerheadz, @brandon1an, Sneaker Market Romania and Sneaker Files.

Beyond its lack of reissues, the Ginger Air Jordan 16 is unique for a number of reasons. Although Michael Jordan himself wore the pair on court as a member of the Washington Wizards, the pair wasn’t exactly a one-to-one match with the team’s blue, black and bronze color palette. Instead, the Ginger/Dark Charcoal/White leaned more lifestyle with a look somewhat reminiscent of the iconic Timberland 6-Inch Premium Boot with its buttery suede upper.

Upon its ’01 debut at retail, the Air Jordan 16 introduced a first-of-its-kind feature to the Air Jordan line in the form of a removable shroud covering the shoelaces. The model was designed to be worn with or without the covering, offering different options for both on and off-court wear.

Despite its popularity, the Air Jordan 16 Retro has been infrequently seen in reissue form. Its first-ever rerelease came in 2008 alongside the Air Jordan 7 Hare as part of a two-sneaker Countdown Pack and the model has since been sporadically available. It will soon be released in a new collaboration with Ghanaian brand Free the Youth. 

The Air Jordan 16 Retro OG Ginger will be released during summer ’27 with expected availability from Nike’s Snkrs app and select Jordan Brand retailers. The style code for the sneaker is IX7269-700 and it’s set to retail for $245. While we await a look at the ’27 release, images of the original ’01 iteration appear below courtesy of Stadium Goods.
