A’ja Wilson Wins WNBA Championship, Finals MVP in Signature Nikes

A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces are back on top. After faltering in the semifinals of the 2024 WNBA playoffs, Wilson and the Aces capped off a dominant postseason run Friday by sweeping the Phoenix Mercury with a 97-86 win. Wilson led the way for the Aces with 39 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks — numbers which earned the Nike-sponsored star her second WNBA Finals MVP honor.

Wilson got the job done in a style of her Nike signature sneakers that was a go-to selection for the star throughout the championship campaign. The Nike A’One “Birthday Cake” (aka “#1 Draft Pick”), a White/Prism Pink/Pink Ice/Perfect Pink colorway released in August, was Wilson’s weapon of choice for the title-clinching match-up.

According to Nike’s product description, the colorway celebrates Wilson’s birthday by combining her favorite pastel pink colors with pearl, which the brand calls “a recipe fit for the birthday queen.”

During the Aces’ celebration, Wilson swapped her shoes out for a special, previously unseen colorway of the Nike A’One in white and black with championship-appropriate metallic gold details. There is currently no confirmed release information for that pair, although it’s possible the gold-tinged style could arrive at retail in the future.

Nike celebrated the Aces’ win through two ads. The first, a video clip set to John Sebastian’s 1976 song “Welcome Back,” depicts the Tiffany & Co.-crafted WNBA championship trophy on a plane home to Vegas, while a second graphic introduces Wilson as “history’s maker.”

The A’One is Wilson’s first signature sneaker and was first released at retail in May. It features the brand’s Cushlon 3.0 foam and has already been launched in more than a dozen colorways.

As for the Birthday Cake look, sizes are nearly depleted on nike.com, but the pair can also be found from select retailers including Dick’s Sporting Goods and Hibbett Sports. The sneaker retails for $115 and its style code is FZ8605-101.
