Edward Green Store Visit: London

The Edward Green store in London is an iconic place. If you have ever been to London, you know that immediately behind the statue of Beau Brummel, when coming out of the Piccadilly Arcade, is the famous English shoemaker’s store. It really hasn’t changed much in the last 16 years. And it hasn’t really needed to. It is a no-frills shop with a great display and a whole lot of shoes.

Sadly, I do not feel that Edward Green is as big as they were 16 years ago when I first visited the shop. When I lived in London, they were the most hyped brand around. And for good reason. Their shoes are fantastic. I owned a few pairs during my time in London. I even remember lining up to go to one of their sample sales and was lucky enough to find exactly what I was looking for: The most copied boot in history, the Galway, on the 82 last. Those were great times.

Today, I don’t hear as much buzz around Edward Green as I used to. Maybe it’s because I am now in the US and prices have exponentially changed. I remember when I was there, an EG shoe was around 700 GBP. Now they are upward of 1200 GBP, and far out of reach for your ‘even-close-to-average’ consumer. But the shoes are still among the best in the RTW side of the industry. A solid Edward Green shoe will last you a lifetime if treated right.

During my last visit to London, I thought I would visit the Edward Green store and see what they had on offer that I had yet to see before. There was a lot of unlined options and a whole lot of suede and unique, soft grain leather options. There were even a few really cool samples that you won’t find on their site (that two-tone canvas shoe!). Edward Green was once a quintessential dress shoe brand and what you would find is oxfords and dress loafers. Now, as the world is moving fastly, EG is offering what the world wants: Suede and loafers.

I have always loved the Edward Green brand and hope that they continue to stay relevant in this fast-moving world.

If you are ever in London, make sure to stop by the Edward Green store!
