A state that’s no stranger to hybrid footwear innovation and resides in the snowy shadow of Mount Hood, KEEN was formed in Portland, Oregon, by Martin Keen and Rory Fuerst back in 2003.
The idea? To create a sandal that could transition seamlessly between sailing and hiking (passions shared by both of its founders). The result? An outdoor kingpin that’s been going strong for 20+ years.
Jasper Zionic
KEEN’s Jasper Zionic released in 2024, but the Jasper lineage itself incepted first back in 2008. The goal with this one was to honour crag heritage while also appealing to everyday punters.
Worn here by @michaelsabuni_, KEEN’s Jasper Zionic fondly reminds the multidisciplinary photographer of time spent embracing all of the the unique yet commonplace characters and cultures of East London when he lived in Mile End, where he would navigate through city parks to get to social events.Â
Michael ultimately found his calling in documentary-style photography while living in London. More recently, he’s spent time in Tanzania, where he was invited to photograph several indigenous tribes. The KEEN Jasper Zionic mirrors his instinct for exploration, equally at home on the uneven trails of Africa’s serene highlands as it is on the pavements of London. A naturally versatile companion for someone whose work moves effortlessly between worlds.
