Three’s a Pattern

OUTFIT DETAILS: Maria de la Orden Top, Coco Shop Dress, By Present Belt, Chanel Bag, Miu Miu Flats (similar here), Sherman Field Necklace (similar here and here)

The rule of three is a styling principle I come back to time after time. It works across fashion and decorating, and it almost always gets me where I want to go. That third piece usually comes from a finishing layer, the thing that makes an outfit feel complete by throwing it off by just the right amount.

When it comes to mixing prints, I like to follow a loose rule of three. The first sets the palette, the graphic, bold one that everything else answers to. The second changes the scale, picking up that same rhythm but smaller and more subdued. The third brings the surprise, the kind you can slip in through an accessory.

Three pieces, three prints, one outfit far more exciting than stopping at one.
