The Belgian Loafer of Today
The Belgian loafer is among the most popular styles of today, traversing the world of men’s style in many various fashions, from slipper-like shoes to the more sporty type you see here, and even in some manner of style with a leather sole. Its low-cut pointed top stitched vamp offers a dynamic not previously seen in your classically cut dress loafer. The high peak offers these side openings, allowing for a dash of bright sock or even no sock, for that matter.
Why I like Berwick’s Belgian Loafer
Berwick’s soft sole Belgian loafer is among my favorite versions that have been brought to market. Berwick really nailed it with the last shape. As a simplistic model, that is usually what separates the good ones from the bad ones, for me. And the sole. I cannot stand those paper-pancake thin versions. They look so silly IMHO. Paper-pancake thin soles in general do, for that matter. I have really taken a liking to these more sporty versions.
The Fit of These
The fit of Berwick’s soft sole Belgian loafer is unique. They fit snug. Most loafers run generous, but I take my exact size as I would in all of my other shoes, while often loafers of this nature run large, and one should optimally size down. Not in these. Stick with your true size for a nice, snug fit.
The Quality of These
The quality of Berwick’s soft sole Belgian loafer is as one would suspect. There isn’t much to these shoes. It is a sport-like rubber sole affixed to a very basic suede upper. One thing that separates them from many is the fact that they are Blake-stitched for ¾s of the sole, only the heel being cemented. That assures you that if ever the cement fails, it only does so on the heel and is quite an easy fix at the cobbler.
