Over the past year, we’ve become reacquainted with PUMA’s ‘Monster’, or Mostro. We were reminded of the nuances that made this unconventional silhouette what it is, including its split personality that paired a 1960s-inspired sprinting spike outsole with a 1980s-inspired surf shoe upper. Born on the cusp of a new millennium, the Mostro redefined dimensions and expectations from footwear, embodying daring experimentation and bold design.
Last year, the Mostro celebrated its 25th birthday, and now, as size? hits the same milestone, a PUMA Mostro – size? exclusive seemed like a good idea. Harking back to the original releases, our exclusive follows the bold colour-blocking traditions of its ancestors. The familiar mesh upper has been smothered in a delicious orange ‘Maple Syrup’ shade – it had to be orange – while contrasting black accents the heel and iconic strap closure.
Creeping out from the constraints of underfoot dimensions are the unique yet iconic rubber sole spikes – the very same that put the Mostro on the map back in 1999. For the final flourish, a silver Formstrip races down the sidewall, melting into the sole unit.
