Sacai Combines Three Birkenstock Models to Create Two New Styles

Sacai revealed its latest footwear partnership in Paris on Sunday at its spring/summer 2027 show.

For the first time, Sacai creative director Chitose Abe teamed up with Birkenstock on a project centered around three key footwear models from the German shoe company, resulting in two new silhouettes.

The first merges Birkenstock’s first-ever sandal, the one-strap Madrid from 1963, featured with the Big Buckle, and is merged with its successor, the Arizona sandal launched in 1973 and defined by the brand’s original square buckles. The resulting style is the Aoyama 107, named after Sacai’s iconic store in Tokyo’s sophisticated Aoyama district.

The second style, named Cassette 75, combines the Arizona sandal with the Boston clog, first introduced in 1976 and celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. The style pays homage to Sacai’s Paris headquarters, located on Rue Cassette in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Crafted using Birkenstock’s premium natural and suede leathers and centered around the brand’s legendary cork-latex footbed wrapped in leather, the collection is rendered in a palette of taupe and black.

Extending the footwear offering is a Birkenstock x Sacai utility bag, available in two sizes and crafted using the same premium natural and suede leathers featured throughout the footwear collection. The interior base is lined with the same suede used on the sandals, while the exterior bottom features Birkenstock’s recognizable bone-pattern outsole.

The bag is finished with an adjustable strap and the brand’s iconic square buckle, and references Birkenstock’s orthopedic roots and functional heritage centered around adjustability and fit. Matching the footwear offering, the utility bag is available in taupe and black.

The new collaboration comes at the same time as Abe swerved convention this season, showing her men’s collection with a stand-alone show and just a few women’s resort looks tossed in the mix.

The designer said she really wanted to focus on menswear this season, and to subvert the classics with her signature splicing of fabrics, colors and genres.

Without the women’s looks to distract, Abe dug deep into the ’80s preppy archive, working with Brooks Brothers and looking at the era’s classic shapes through an edgier — and less-polished ’90s lens.

The new Birkenstock x Sacai collaboration is expected to launch globally in spring 2027.
