Made in USA 990v4 & 992 Release Date

After delivering sets of regionally inspired Made in USA 993 and Made in USA 990v4 sneakers in April and May, respectively, New Balance is once again paying homage to one of the areas that made the brand iconic with two limited-edition silhouettes. 

This time, the New Balance Made in USA 990v4 and Made in USA 992 take the spotlight for a two-sneaker “Chocolate City Pack.” Getting its nickname from one of Washington, D.C.’s own monikers, the two-sneaker selection is inspired by the “blog era” of the late 2000s and early 2010s, a period in which the internet informed taste long before Instagram algorithms were a thing.

The result is a Neapolitan ice cream-esque spin on the Made in USA 990v4 (style code U990IC4), which dons a Pumpernickel/Pink Chalk/Alabaster color combination. With a look reminiscent of Stussy’s coveted 2005 Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration, the 990v4 combines a brown suede base with white mesh and accents of pink and yellow.

The duo’s Made in USA 992 (style code U992PK) takes a slightly different approach with its Pink Chalk/Pink Lemonade/Cherry Leather colorway. This pair leaves the brown and yellow behind with a fully pink suede and mesh upper that’s broken up with dark cherry burgundy throughout the design.

Behind-the-scenes details of the Chocolate City Pack were shared by New Balance’s associate product manager of Made in USA lifestyle, Myles Williams. 

“The Blog Era was a beautiful time. It was the internet’s age of discovery. A time where hypebeasts couldn’t blend in. Either you was tapped in or you wasn’t. From DatPiff, to Worldstar, to #60daysofkicks, the internet was a forum for discovery. And your style was representative of your research. Today feels very similar to the blog era. During that time we discovered who really defined sneaker culture, the DMV…watch us do it again,” Williams wrote on Instagram. 

The New Balance Made in USA 992 and Made in USA 990v4 Chocolate City Pack will be released Friday at 10 a.m. ET from newbalance.com with further availability from select New Balance retailers. The Made in USA 992 retails for $200, while the Made in USA 990v4 is priced at $185.
